Dog Didn’t Feel He Was Worth Rescuing Because His Owners Failed Him

Adopting a dog is a big responsibility. It takes a patient, loving person to understand a dog’s true nature and love them anyway. The fact is, dogs require work. And, sadly, many irresponsible, self-centered people only consider their wants and needs when adopting a pet. Being a pet owner is a challenging role, but our animals are worth it! This is exactly why dog ownership isn’t suitable for everyone. If a person lacks the compassion needed to care for these animals, they should not adopt. This narrative revolves around Bo, a dog who was heartlessly abandoned by his previous owners and left alone in a doghouse in the yard. When Bo was discovered by the Street Dog Rescue in Oklahoma, he was suffering from numerous health problems.

One of the rescuers, Faith, shared with The Dodo, “Bo had been attacked by coyotes. He had never been seen by a vet, and he was covered in mange.” The rescue team fed him, and it was evident he hadn’t eaten in a while. From how he interacted with them, Faith could tell he deeply craved affection. After eating, Bo retreated into his doghouse and refused to come out. The rescue team realized they needed to physically remove him. They managed to coax him from the doghouse, only for Bo to hide underneath it. Faith and her team gently attempted to retrieve him again, yet he resisted.

It took about 45 minutes to finally get Bo out from under the house. He was then transferred to Pyr Paws and Fluffy Tails rescue. During his recovery, Bo was treated at a veterinary clinic in Oklahoma for his mange and was nursed back to health.

When Patricia, his future owner, first saw his photograph, she was taken aback by his condition. But over time, Bo’s health improved significantly. A few months later, he transformed into a healthier, happier dog. The rescuers believed he deserved a dedicated owner, and Patricia, experienced with rescue dogs, felt prepared to take on the responsibility. Although it took him about six months to fully accept his new home, he eventually adjusted and became the happy puppy he was always meant to be!
